I work with adults; I aim to provide a calm and confidential space where we can work together to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a creative and non-judgemental way. This means that you can use the time and space to tune into your body and mind and to discuss what is going on with you as honestly as you can.

Psychotherapy with Mariana

I am a relational therapist, which means that I strive to be as present and honest as I can in my experience of what it’s like to relate to you and to use that as guiding information in the work we do. As an integrative psychotherapist, I use different approaches to help us notice, feel and think.

We work towards developing greater mindfulness, better awareness and attunement to your own body and feelings, and towards noticing patterns of thinking and behaving. Therapy can be challenging and requires commitment, but I believe it can facilitate a shift in the way you perceive the experiences you have within our social and political structures, giving you a better understanding and deeper connection with who you are, and with that comes the possibility of choice and agency, allowing for a bigger, more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I tend to offer open-ended therapy; the length of our work together depends on what your needs are. We start with an initial consultation to help us determine whether we are a good fit and if we decide to go ahead, we will see each other weekly for a 50-minute session at an agreed day and time. We move towards your goals, which can evolve during our work together, and we go at your own pace.

I am multilingual and can also offer sessions in Portuguese. I also speak French and can work with people wanting to use both French and English in the sessions. I offer both face to face and online sessions.

Areas of particular interest and experience

I have experience working with people from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. In addition to my private practice, I have worked with clients in various settings, such as a university counselling service and a low-cost therapy service. I have also lived in areas affected by conflict and experienced being an immigrant. This international perspective has fuelled my interest in how we deal with diversity and belonging, particularly issues around race, identity, sexuality, and trauma.
