I work with outwardly successful people who appear to be doing well in life, whilst managing a background sense of uncertainty about whether this is really ‘it’ or whether they’re doing things right. They feel lost, unsure and like something is missing, but they keep going through the motions because everything they have should be making them happy, and they don’t understand why it isn’t.
You may feel like your life looks good on paper – perhaps you’re in a relationship, have a stable job and have friends around you. But in reality you’re more anxious than anyone notices, you worry about what people think or how you come across, and you work hard to keep everyone else happy, because it’s part of how you feel ok too.
Therapy with Elsie
My clients are often ‘people-pleasers’ who naturally put other people first and are exhausted by how much they have to hold together, and the energy it takes to continue keeping up appearances when underneath they are confused, overwhelmed and sitting with big questions, usually about who they are, what makes them happy and what they actually want from their lives.
For many of my clients, making the decision to seek support often comes after a long time of thinking about it, or even putting it off because it feels uncomfortable to take up the space. Starting therapy usually reflects a need and readiness for things to change, and this work offers space to explore finding meaning and purpose in your life, beyond just ticking the boxes of what you thought that would look like.
My approach
I have almost a decade of experience supporting clients to overcome people-pleasing, manage social and generalised anxiety, build self-esteem, set healthy boundaries and manage the discomfort that comes with stepping forward to advocate for ourselves and create what we actually want from our lives. You can explore my work in these areas in more detail through my instagram.
My work goes beyond just understanding your patterns or exploring the questions you’re holding; it’s about noticing the things in your life that aren’t serving you, and using this new knowledge to meaningfully change what doesn’t feel good.
Alongside my psychotherapy training, I bring my personal experiences of life as a millennial woman to my work where it feels helpful and supportive. I know how meaningful it can be to sit across from a therapist who shows up as a real person – open, friendly and ultimately someone navigating the world, too.
How I can support you
You can expect sessions with me to be intentional, collaborative and gentle, but I will also challenge you, share directive feedback if you would like it and I’ll always share ideas, suggestions and resources when I think they might be supportive of where you’re trying to go.
Our work may include:
- Uncovering your patterns and where they came from
- Exploring how your past is impacting your present
- Exploring your relationship with identity and with yourself
- Developing self-compassion and building self-esteem
- Strengthening your boundaries
- Learning how to regulate your emotions and nervous system
- Giving you tools to help you manage in times of anxiety and stress
- Supporting you through periods of transition and change
Whether you’re seeking support with your work, friendships, romantic relationship, or broader themes that impact the overall shape of your life, therapy offers you the opportunity to work towards living in a way that centres what makes you feel good, happy and content, not what other people, or the world in general, expect from you.
The practicalities
I offer individual psychotherapy to adults both in-person and online.
In-person sessions take place on Wednesdays at Homa Therapy Practice (nearest stations Farringdon, Kings Cross & Angel). Online sessions are held Tuesday – Thursday on Zoom and offer effective therapy from the convenience and safety of your own space.
We can also meet in a hybrid way, where we mix between meeting online and in-person.
Therapy is typically held weekly or bi-weekly, depending on clinical need and capacity, for as long as it continues to be helpful. This involves reviewing often, revisiting your reasons for coming and checking in about the progress we both feel we’re making.
The session fee is £95 – £125 for 50 minutes (you will be invited to self-select a fee that is affordable for you within this bracket).
Next steps
I offer a complimentary exploration call that gives us an opportunity to have a brief initial conversation and establish whether we feel we’ll work well together.
If we decide to progress, we’ll arrange a consultation session before moving into meeting regularly. You can reach out via email or my website to get started.
