Hi, I’m Amma a certified advanced couples and family systemic practitioner/coach and associate systemic and family psychotherapist qualifying (4th) year with The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, completing my final stages within their Family Mental Health department. I’ve previously trained with The Institute of Family Therapy.
Psychotherapy with Amma
Relationships and families come in all shapes and sizes, from traditional structures to diverse and evolving relationships. You may be looking to reconnect, improve communication, navigate conflict or change, understand recurring patterns, work through difficult experiences, or simply have a space to explore what is happening in your life and relationships.
I offer a creative, non-judgmental space where individuals, couples and families can feel heard and understood, explore different perspectives and find ways forward that are meaningful to them.
I am a qualified Systemic and Family Psychotherapist with extensive experience working with individuals, couples, families and wider relationship networks across the NHS, local authorities and voluntary sector.
My work can include:
- Individuals – emotional and relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity, trauma, loss, personal exploration and understanding patterns that may no longer be helpful.
- Couples & Relationships – connection and disconnection, communication, conflict, intimacy, compromise, work and household pressures, neurodiversity, changing roles and recurring relationship patterns.
- Families – family relationships and dynamics, estrangement, parenting, blended families, separation, intergenerational difficulties and periods of transition or change.
- Children & Young People – supporting children and adolescents affected by family difficulties, separation, trauma or significant change.
- Diverse Relationships & Family Structures – including throuples, polyamorous relationships and other relationship structures.
- Culture, Identity & Difference – including experiences connected with culture, race, faith, interracial and interfaith relationships, belonging and racialised experiences.
- Trauma & Difficult Experiences – including current and historical trauma, domestic abuse and family breakdown.
- Therapeutic Exploration – you do not need to arrive with a diagnosis, crisis or clearly defined problem. Therapy can also provide space to think, reflect and better understand yourself and your relationships.
How I Work
As a systemic therapist, I am interested not only in the individual, but in relationships, experiences, patterns, context and the wider systems that shape our lives.
While conversation is central to therapy, talking is not always the only or most useful way to explore an experience. Where appropriate, and always collaboratively, I may use creative and experiential approaches alongside systemic psychotherapy. These can include visual and written exercises, timelines, objects, movement, guided meditation, sound and body-based practices.
There is no expectation to work creatively; these approaches are simply additional ways of exploring experiences when words alone may not be enough.
I bring cultural awareness and curiosity to my work and welcome people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, relationships and family structures. My approach is tailored to the people in front of me rather than assuming that one therapeutic model or way of understanding a difficulty fits everyone.
